| At the gateway to Normandy, 75 km from Paris and 60 km from Rouen, the village of Giverny (pronounced Jee-va-nyee) is located on the right bank of the River Seine, at its confluence with one of the two branches of the River Epte lined with willows and poplars. But Giverny rises to fame in 1883 when the painter Claude Monet discovered the village whilst looking out of the train window (the line has since closed down). Monet was enthusiastic about the spot. He found a large house to rent, "the Press House". By the end of April he had moved in with Alice Hoschedé, his lady-friend, his two sons and her six children. The house was a farmhouse with a vegetable garden and an orchard of over one hectare. At the time there were about 300 inhabitants in Giverny, most of them farmers, and a few middle-class families. The village consists of two streets on the hillside lined with low houses in a pink or green roughcast with slate roofs, their walls covered with wisteria and Virginia creeper. These streets are crossed by narrow lanes running down the hill. The Claude Monet Road runs straight to the village. The "Chemin du Roy" (Secondary Road 5) follows the banks of the River Epte. Claude Monet's house lies between the two roads. | ||

Review: This was the first river cruise for our group of 8 friends (four couples). The whole experience far exceeded our expectations. The planning, logistics, cabins/staterooms, food, drinks, staff, countryside, excursions, activities, and every single detail were all amazing! We would highly recommend this and we are grateful we were able to experience it!

Cons: we were at the back of the ship and the engine noise was a little bothersome. There were several ports that we did not get to enjoy because all the shops were closed for the holiday

Review: The AmaDante team were excellent. Friendly, helpful, and they clearly noticed and took care of the details to keep things running smoothly and to take care of the guests. This was our first cruise of any kind, so we weren't sure what to expect. They did a great job of keeping us informed, keeping us comfortable and well fed, and they made the travel experience very easy. As a traveler that likes to DIY it, I did think the ratio of shore time to ship time was lower than I would like. We did the pre-cruise and post-cruise extensions, which made this better. But all things considered, I would recommend AmaWaterways anytime.

Review: I think the massage that I had was amazing, done by Vladimir, and that opportunity should have been promoted more than by just a flyer in the room. I was motivated by the reports that came back and would have probably would have done it again. I liked that there were different levels of walking groups so everyone seemed to be in their own comfort zone.
Great ship. Room was more spacious than I imagined. Lots of storage space to put away all possessions. Ship was spotless. Food was great. Crew very accommodating and friendly. Loved the time on deck as we went down the Danube. The views at night leaving Budapest are etched in my memory forever. Our tour guide, Edward, was excellent. Ihotels were superior and great locations.

Review: This was an awesome cruise. The ship has be refurbished with lovely furishings. The Staff, crew, food, service and cruise director were excellent. This company offers slow walkers and regular walkers excursions. This was highly appricated. We are looking forward to our next cruise with them. Local entertainment was offered in the evenings.
